Boroughbridge High School is a good school – it’s official!Pupils and staff at Boroughbridge High School are celebrating after receiving a glowing report from Ofsted inspectors, whose judgement puts Boroughbridge High among the top schools in North Yorkshire. Boroughbridge High has been rated as a good and improving school by Government Ofsted inspectors who visited in early January 2009. In addition, 2 key areas of provision – ‘Personal Development and Well-being’ and ‘Care, Guidance and Support’ were assessed as outstanding. A particular strength of the school is the support provided to new students on transition from primary school. The inspectors were also impressed by the progress which students make at the school, and the provision and opportunities at sixth-form level. Inspectors had nothing but praise for the students at the school, noting in particular their excellent behaviour, their enjoyment of school, their positive approach to learning and their valuable contribution to the community. Lead Inspector Julie Price Grimshaw said: “Students are polite, courteous and welcoming to visitors. Students’ behaviour is excellent. Their excellent moral development is reflected in the quality of some of the discussions on ethical issues. Their enjoyment of their education is clear; several parents commented that their children are ‘very happy to go to school every day.’ …..students make good or even outstanding progress during lessons.” She had similar praise for the staff: “Teachers have good subject knowledge and assess students’ work accurately. Written feedback is consistently good. Teachers use a wide range of resources, including ICT, to enhance teaching and learning. Staff do their utmost to ensure that students receive outstanding care and support, carefully tailored to the needs of the individual.” Headteacher, Elaine Dixon, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the many strengths of Boroughbridge High School have been recognised by the Ofsted inspection team. They recognised the progress the school has made over the last few years. A large percentage of parents sent positive and supportive information to the inspectors and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them. It is good to know that all our efforts are recognised and appreciated. The hard work of students, staff and governors has been rewarded through this report, which quite rightly concludes that Boroughbridge High school is a good school with some outstanding features.” The full report can be accessed from the Ofsted website A local copy of the Inspectors' Report may be downloaded.
